Team goes even more global with new, surprise addition

Today the Miranda Factory Team hosted its official 2020 season debut. The event took place at the Águeda Arts Center and in front of the entire Miranda & Irmão collective, including partners, press, and friends.

The team is also celebrating its second year as an international UCI-licensed team by going even more global with the addition of Estonian cross-country champ, Maaris Meier. Meier, a former Olympic athlete and silver medalist in the World University Cycling Championship, counts 26 titles from her home country and four in Portugal. Meier moved to Portugal in 2012 and is currently one of the most multi-disciplined athletes in the country. Now she brings her talent to the Miranda Factory Team for the 2020 season.

Maris Meier

“Without a doubt, the Miranda Factory Team is one to watch," Meier said. "I will have all the support at my disposal to make it a great season and I want to pay it back with nothing but wins. E-bikes will be a novelty for me. I’ve already had the opportunity to do some training with good initial results. In addition to the team's race calendar, I also want to participate in additional events in Spain."

Definitely not a new face on the team, Emanuel Pombo, plays an important role in the development of the e-bike segment. The racer from Madeira has an enviable record that boasts 10 national titles; Pombo will be one of the team leaders.

Returning racer, José Borges, will be one of the team's principle athletes in Enduro. Gifted with incredible strength and now with full team support, Borges has set his sights on victory with a goal is to win titles for the team from Águeda.

New to the team, we are proud to introduce Silas Grandy and Nuno Reis. The German, Grandy, arrived in Portugal at a young age and has been one of the chief racers in the Portuguese National Championship in recent years. Reis is the current national champion and winner of the Portuguese Downhill Cup in the cadet category. One of his career highlights is the title he won at the iXS International.

Team strongholds, Gonçalo Bandeira and Tiago Ladeira, will also boost the efforts of the Miranda Factory Team. Ladeira, who is the current European Downhill Champion, will bet it all on the World Series Downhill Cup and the World Championship.

Former national champion, Vasco Bica, is the eighth member of the Miranda Factory Team. A lingering injury is shaping his schedule this season and his race calendar will be focused on the the Portuguese National Downhill Championship and some stages of the iXS this season.

Today's event also unveiled the equipment and bikes that the team will use this season. The Miranda Factory Team will campaign for victory with the KTM Macina Prowler e-bike, the Scott Gambler for downhill, and the Scott Ramson for Enduro. As always the team will be equipped with state-of-the-art Miranda Bike Parts components.

The 2020 Miranda Factory Team has strategized its racing season to include a healthy blend of international and national races, which can now count Estonia as a place where the team can make an impact. In addition to the usual Portuguese National Championships and Cups for downhill and enduro, the race calendar will also include the European Championship, the Downhill World Championships and World Cup races, the Enduro World Series, the World E-Bike Series, the Bosch eMTB Challenge, as well as other banner events.

“This year we undoubtedly have a dream team," said João Filipe Miranda, chief marketing officer for Miranda. "With young and capable athletes, we want to confirm our international reputation. We will work together to meet our goals but above all, we want a cohesive and united team.”
